Evaluative Components Eg Editing Paper 1

WRITING PROJECT 1 REVISION ASSIGNMENT

Over the next week, you will revise your Writing Project #1. Since we’ve stretched out this process for unforeseen course changes, I’m willing to give you a week to revise. DUE 9/15 with the self-assessment. Keep in mind that you will be doing other things for this course during that time, so don’t lose track!

Here are the steps/directions you should follow in rewriting/revising your Writing Project #1:

1)Take note of the comments I made on your text. Those are places where I either ask you to engage directly with the evaluative components – eg., “document this claim,” “can you point me to your controlling purpose?” etc. I also ask you to elaborate in various. While I might not always say “elaborate more here” or “say more here” when I’m engaging with a spot with questions, it usually is in invitation for you to engage with me and write more.

2)Review the Bazerman text, the Bazerman and Miller videos, etc., as necessary to, again, see what you might have missed, misunderstood, etc. If there are places that I ask you to engage more with course content, this is a particularly important step.

3)Lastly, read Bill Hart-Davidson’s Genres are Enacted by Writers and Readers (pp.39-40).

-What does Hart-Davidsons VERY short piece change for you?

-What adjustments does it require you to make to your essay, in single spots are across the essay as a whole?

Here is a common misunderstanding about revision – that “it’s just correction!” I will often ask you to read and think further as revision instead of simply “correcting mistakes.” This is the most productive form of revision, in my opinion, and the type you’ll be asked to consider more and more as you work farther into your scholarly careers.

4)Rewrite/revise your texts! TURN ON TRACK CHANGES SO I CAN SEE THE CHANGES YOU MAKE TO YOUR TEXTS.

When you’ve finished, I then ask that you SELF-ASSESS your own writing assignment, negotiating a grade with me. The directions for this will be on a separate sheet.

DON’T FORGET TO TURN ON TRACK CHANGES!!!
